Tonight we’ll take a closer look at the Perspective Grid Tool. This is something that takes some time to master. There is not a specific assignment focused on this tool in this class, but I’ll introduce the basic concept.
We’ll also have time in class to address any struggles you may have encountered.

Class 14 • April 26, 2011
Tonight we’ll look at tools that help with coloring, and recoloring your illustration. We will also look at other “Stylize” tools so you can use them in your final project.
We will take a look at cover designs and address issues that have come up as you’ve each begun to render your final project.
Good news! I have revised the due date for the final project. Artwork for the final project is now due May 9. All student presentations will now be on May 10. That effectively gives everybody one extra week to complete all outstanding projects.
Please note: I will not accept projects after the last day of class (May 10, 2011). Please be sure to email me with questions or concerns.

Tonight I will introduce Project 4, which is an exploration of how to use type as illustration. This is another two-part project allowing students to research, then create a unique illustration with a focus on type. We will look at the “glyphs” tool and review how to convert type into editable images. We will look at using contrast in scale and color to alter hierarchy on the page.
To download the project, right click on the “Project 4” link in the column to the right, and select “download linked file”.
I will also address question or concerns that came up in the completion of the previous project, which is due tonight.

Tonight I'll review Project 1 and field any questions and concerns that students raise.
I will then introduce Project 2 ~ Support Graphics
The focus of this project is to create a series of graphs that could all work together in a print document, presentation or online. Students will learn to create multiple artboards (only available in CS4 and CS5), use the Color Guide to select a palette and use the 3-D Tool to add visual effects to this set of three graphs. Right click on the Project 2 link to download a PDF, or to open it in a browser window.
Important note ~ we will be gathering information for the graphs from students during class tonight, so plan to be there.

Let the fun begin!
Tonight we'll jump right into our first project. The goal of Project 1 is to review essential tools and learn how to make an effective map. This is something most designers are called upon to do at some point. For me, it's about once a week!
Please right click on the Project 1 link to download a PDF of the project, or to open it in a browser window. You will also need the file "map.png" for this assignment. You may retrieve it by right-clicking the link and saving the linked file onto your computer.
